Commenting on today’s decision by the Energy Secretary Ed Miliband to grant consent to Morgan Generation Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Cumbria, RenewableUK’s Director of Future Electricity Systems Barnaby Wharton said:

“The decision to give planning consent to Morgan Generation Offshore Wind Farm is a great boost for Britain’s energy system. With a substantial capacity of 1.5 gigawatts, Morgan has the potential to increase the UK’s energy security by generating homegrown clean power at a stable and predictable price, and reduce our exposure to spikes in volatile international gas prices which we can’t control.

“We have a record amount of offshore wind capacity eligible for this year’s auction for contracts for new projects to go ahead. This year’s auction and the one next year will be crucial in meeting the Government’s clean power targets.

“What's more, building and operating this major offshore wind project will create jobs in Cumbria, the north west of England and beyond, as our supply chain extends all over the country, including 2,000 companies and 160 factories.”
