Delegates from Vietnam visited Hull this week as the council demonstrated the success of the region’s offshore wind industry and its programmes, such as Green Port Hull.

Around 25 representatives made the trip over from southeast Asia and attended the Guildhall on Monday 23 September.

The delegates were welcomed in the reception room by leader of Hull City Council, Cllr Mike Ross, before a short speech was given by Mr Ta Dinh Thi, deputy chairman of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment in charge of energy at the Vietnamese National Assembly.

Alex Codd, the council’s assistant director for economic development and regeneration, then gave a presentation highlighting the methods and success of the region’s offshore wind industry and how it has benefitted businesses and residents of Hull.

This was followed by an introduction to the Lord Mayor of Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Cllr Mark Collinson, refreshments and a networking session with local industry leaders in the banqueting suite.

Cllr Ross said: “It is always great to be able to welcome foreign delegates to the Guildhall and really showcase our city to them.

“For the representatives to travel all the way from Vietnam to learn about the offshore wind industry in the region really shows how successful it has been and I am confident the region will continue to be a world leader in the sector.

“It was a pleasure to meet our Vietnamese friends and I hope we can work together in the future on similar projects.”
